NORFOLK

LOCAL CONTRACTOR NAMED IN THE TOP 400: Virtexco Corp., a Norfolk-based general contractor, was ranked in the top 400 U.S. contractors in the May 26 issue of Engineering News-Record magazine. Those that made the list were ranked according to construction revenue in 1996. The contractor was ranked ninth-largest general contractor in Virginia by Virginia Business magazine in February.

SMITH NAMED VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION: Glass Corp. named Kathryn L. Smith vice president of administration. She will also retain her position as office manager/bookkeeper of the company.

VIRGINIA BEACH

TENNECO AUTOMOTIVE TO SUPPLY FORD PLANT: Tenneco Automotive, based in Deerfield, Ill., is leasing 20,000 square feet in Virginia Beach to make F150 truck mufflers for the Ford plant in Norfolk. The site, at 1569 Diamond Springs Road in Airport Industrial Park, is expected to open in mid-June. The auto parts supplier, an operating arm of Tenneco Inc., will initially employ 40 workers, according to the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development.

NEWPORT NEWS

WRIGHT APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF SUBCONTRACT MANAGEMENT AT NEWPORT NEWS SHIPBUILDING: Thomasina Wright was appointed director of subcontract management at Newport News Shipbuilding. She began her career at the company in 1983, and has worked in trades management, quality engineering and governmental relations.

INTERSTATE WAREHOUSING TO BUILD DISTRIBUTION CENTER: Interstate Warehousing, an Indiana-based company that provides public refrigerated warehousing and customized third-party distribution services from seven locations, has plans to build a new refrigerated/frozen food distribution center in Oakland Industrial Park. The new warehouse will occupy 130,000 square feet and sit on 24 acres. This site will accommodate an anticipated 125,000 square foot expansion to the warehouse to be built within the next five years. Interstate expects to create at least 75 new jobs.
