George Francis Rowland, 75, of the 9500 block of Warwick Ave. died June 9, 1997, in a local hospital.

A retired engineer for Norfolk and Western Railroad, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the 13th Airborne Division.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Ware Rowland; daughter, Sandy Collins of Norfolk; two sons, George F. Rowland Jr. and his wife, Caren, of Roswell, Ga., and James E. Rowland and his wife, Rhonda, of Norfolk; sister, Sadie C. Day of Tulsa, Okla.; brother, William J. Rowland of Zuni, Va.; four grandchildren, Robert and Sarah Collins and Kristen and Curtis Rowland.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rosewood Memorial Park by the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood. The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
