CALMER SEAS IMPROVE PIER FISHING

Pier fishing along the Dare Coast improved Tuesday as seas calmed.

Small spot, a few speckled trout and a few Spanish mackerel were landed on Kitty Hawk Pier during the morning.

Speckled trout, gray trout and some nice bluefish were decked near the end of the pier during the afternoon. Bucktail rigs proved to be the most effective of all.

Avalon Pier reported a few bluefish and scattered bottom fish taken off and on during the day. Some Spanish mackerel were seen throughout the afternoon.

A few sea mullet, spot, pigfish and skates were taken Tuesday morning from Nags Head Pier. Tailor bluefish action was good throughout the afternoon.

Jennette's Pier fishermen caught scattered bluefish from the end of the pier throughout the day.

A few bluefish, spot and skates were landed early in the day on Outer Banks Pier. Small bottom fish and a few gray trout were taken during the afternoon.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier fishermen caught a few bluefish in the morning. Plenty of bluefish, a few Spanish mackerel and small bottom fish were landed during the afternoon.

Small bottom fish were decked on Avon Pier during the morning and tailor bluefish were caught in the afternoon.

Fishing was slow throughout the day on Frisco Pier.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches improved, with a few blues and small bottom fish taken.

Some gray trout and blues were taken by anglers fishing around Oregon Inlet.

Spot, croaker and sea mullet were hauled from the surf by fishermen from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Scattered flounder were landed along the beach north of Cape Point Tuesday, and bluefish were taken in fair numbers along the south beach.

A few bluefish and sea mullet were beached by anglers from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was good Tuesday, with plenty of tailor blues landed. Headboats in the area caught bluefish and gray trout.

Blue water action was good between the 40400 and the 40600 Loran lines off Oregon Inlet. Plenty of yellowfin tuna were taken, along with good numbers of dolphin. White marlin were released by the Surfside, the Fish'n'Frenzy and the Jo Boy.

Dolphin fishing off Hatteras was good below the rockpile. Some Tuna and wahoo also were taken. Billfishing was slow.

The water temperature was 62 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 64 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
