MUSIC LOVERS HAVE MANY MORE VENUES TO CHOOSE FROM THIS SUMMER

Music clubs are multiplying like mosquitoes on the Outer Banks.

First-time visitors as well as seasoned club hoppers will find at least a dozen new places to hear live music this summer.

Here's a north to south rundown of the new hot spots:

Sorrel Eclectic Cuisine in Corolla has acoustic player Rob Fick and acoustic band Tradewinds alternating on Saturday nights. Entertainment starts at 8-ish and there's no cover charge.

Planet Corolla in Corolla now has acoustic players on Tuesday nights. And there's no cover charge.

The After Deck restaurant in Duck now offers acoustic players on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Ocean Boulevard restaurant in Kitty Hawk has moved the jazzy Laura Martier Band from Friday nights to Wednesday nights.

After five years as a private club, Paradise Billiards and Sports Bar in Kill Devil Hills recently went public. Paradise owner Bill Fenner offers acoustic players on Tuesdays and classic rock and blues bands on Fridays and Saturdays. Cover charges vary.

Van's Pizza in Kill Devil Hills tosses in acoustic players on Thursdays and rock/alternative bands on Fridays and Saturdays. Manday Huge lead singer/bassist Rollo has gone the unplugged route on several Thursdays this spring. The cover charge is $1 on Thursdays and $3 on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Pit, a swanky new surf shop in Kill Devil Hills, has live entertainment every night in its cyber cafe - with bands you won't find most other places on the beach. There are computers with public Internet access, pool tables, foosball, a mini-movie theater and open mike jams Monday nights.

Hurricane Alley in Kill Devil Hills mixes acoustic, reggae, alternative and rock bands several nights a week. Cover charges are in the $2 to $3 range.

Millie's in Kill Devil Hills offers disc jockey Travis (using records on turntables!) mixing jungle/acid jazz/Trip Hop tunes on Saturday nights. The late night event in this restored 1940s diner is made for dancing. Local jazz stylist Laura Martier and her trio perform on Sunday nights. No cover charges for either night.

Kokomo Joe's in Kill Devil Hills is the place for music of the islands. The Virginia Beach-based 2 Can Jam is the house band for the Tuesday 5 to 9 p.m. ``Caribbean Jamboree.'' The trio employs a steel drum player who helps give rhythm to the reggae and Jimmy Buffett tunes. There's no cover charge for the party.

Cafe Agape in Nags Head is new this summer. The coffeehouse features contemporary Christian bands. All ages can enjoy the entertainment on Saturday nights from 7 to midnight. From time to time there is a cover charge for the Christian rock bands.

Lance's Restaurant in Nags Head offers acoustic players and bands Fridays and Saturdays.
