ATLANTIC DISPOSAL ANNOUNCES OPERATIONS: Atlantic Disposal Services, a locally owned and managed waste hauling and disposal company, was recently formed by Joseph Eichelbaum, Steven H. Eichelbaum and David A. Leon. Samuel W. Nolder was named a general manager of g4ls23 Nolder the company. He has over 10 years of experience in the industry and was previously with Waste Management Inc. in Northern Virginia and Chambers Waste Systems in Norfolk. Atlantic Disposal provides complete commercial, industrial, construction and residential collection and recycling services.

VIRGINIA

VIRGINIA POWER PROMOTIONS: Virginia Power promoted six employees at Surry Power Station into plant and corporate management positions. James H. McCarthy, assistant Surry station manager-nuclear operations & maintenance, was promoted to corporate manager-nuclear licensing and operations support in Richmond. Bryce L. Shriver, assistant Surry station manager-nuclear safety and licensing, is now assistant station manager-nuclear operations and maintenance. Richard H. Blount II, superintendent-maintenance, was promoted to assistant station manager-nuclear licensing & operations support. Robert C. Allen was promoted from nuclear specialist to superintendent of maintenance. Michael D. Bradley, previously supervisor-mechanical maintenance, was named nuclear specialist, and Richard E. Mudd, supervisor of facilities and services, is now supervisor-mechanical maintenance.

NORFOLK

ROSARIO NAMED SUPERINTENDENT: John J. Rosario was named the new superintendent of waste management for the Norfolk Department of Public Works. He was previously manager of solid waste for Lakeland, Fla.

BARNES ELECTED TO PRESIDENT OF FOUNDATION: Old Dominion University Research Foundation elected Nora A. Barnes president for the 1997-98 year. Barnes is senior vice president of PaineWebber.

EVMS HONORS FOUR: Eastern Virginia Medical School honored four faculty members at the Dean's Faculty Achievement Awards recently. Dr. Thomas T. Rubio, professor of pediatrics, won the Dean's Outstanding Faculty Award, which recognizes significant achievement in teaching, research and institutional service. Dr. Raymond V. van Wolkenten Jr., associate professor of family and community medicine, received the Achievement in Teaching or Service in Clinical Medicine; Dr. Gerald H. Jordan, professor of urology, was honored with the Achievement by Community Faculty award, and Howard D. White, professor of biochemistry, was recognized with the Achievement in Research award.
