HENRIETTA M. NEWTON

Mrs. Henrietta M. Newton, 66, of the 6900 block of Pugh St. died June 21, 1997, in DePaul Medical Center.

A native of Swan Quarter, N.C., and the daughter of the late James and Julia Holloway Whitney, she was a retired seamstress, formerly of Fines Men's Shop. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church and had been a devoted member of the church for more than 40 years. She was the widow of James H. Newton.

She is survived by two sons, James T. Newton and Ronney R. Newton; three sisters, Gertrude Kenlaw of Washington, N.C., Marjorie Tilley of Norfolk and Willa Collins of Norfolk; three brothers, Johnny Holloway of Swan Quarter, Richard Holloway of Norfolk and Clifton Holloway of Norfolk; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a devoted daughter-in-law, Burnette M. Newton.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Second Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Geoffrey V. Guns. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends in Riddick Funeral Service from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Friday.
