Alvin Earl Eley, 59, of the 6100 block of Bradford Drive, died July 4, 1997.
He had retired from Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock as a welder after 24 years. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Suffolk, and its Sunday School.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy R. Eley; two daughters, Karen Sanders of Fayetteville, Ark., and Sharon Ragsdale of Newport News; three stepdaughters, Emma Jones, Willie Mae Jones and Sally Rese Hunter; two sons, Sgt. 1st Class Johnnie Eley Jr. of Seoul, Korea, and Alvin Earl Eley Jr. of Hampton; two sisters, Celestine E. Whitehead and Delores E. Randall, and a brother, James W. Eley, all of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren; and a special friend, Tony Williams.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2635 E. Washington St., Suffolk, by the Rev. Anthony Copeland. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Fisher Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
