WILLIAM D. DAIL

William Daniel ``Pappy'' Dail, 80, of Route 1, died July 5, 1997 in Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Mr. Dail was born in Craven County, N.C., and had retired as a boiler fireman from Planters Peanut Co., Suffolk. He was a member of Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church; a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2582, Suffolk; a Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Morris DD 417 and the USS Cushing DD 797.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Lewis Dail; three daughters, Sue Dail Pittman and Ellen Brandon McLeod, both of Nashville, Tenn., and Jean Dail Jones of Ahoskie; three sisters, Lillian Simpkins of Ernul, N.C., Pennie Russell of Williamsburg and Mattie Harris of San Antonio, Texas; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. David Harper and the Rev. Paul Ange. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie. Memorial donations may be made to the Roanoke Chowan Hospice, P.O.
