Pier fishing was good in some spots and poor in others along the Dare coast Wednesday.
Bluefish and Spanish mackerel fishing was steady on Kitty Hawk Pier early Wednesday morning. A few bluefish, small spot and fair numbers of triggerfish were landed during the rest of the day.
Avalon Pier reported some blues, gray trout and Spanish mackerel taken during the morning. One jack was released. A few gray trout and small spot were caught in the afternoon.
Scattered Spanish mackerel, bluefish and a few keeper flounder were taken on Nags Head Pier during the morning, but afternoon fishing was slow.
A few small flounder were landed on Jennette's Pier off and on throughout the day.
Anglers on Outer Banks Pier caught spot sporadically during most of the day. A few sea mullet also were landed.
On Hatteras Island, big fish action continued to be good at Rodanthe Pier. King mackerel weighing 15 and 17 1/2 pounds, a 58 1/2-pound cobia and a 6-pound Spanish mackerel were taken during the morning. Bluefish and some keeper flounder also were taken during the day.
Fishermen on Avon Pier caught lots of small croaker, some pigfish, small bluefish and a few spot throughout most of the morning. A few croaker were taken later in the day.
Two king mackerel, each weighing 11 1/2 pounds, and a 5 1/4-pound Spanish mackerel were decked on Frisco Pier. Some bottom fish and a few nice pompano also were taken.
Surf fishermen hauled small bottom fish, a few keeper flounder and scattered blues from the surf along the northern beaches on the rising tide.
Some keeper flounder, tailor blues and bottom fish were caught by fishermen around Oregon Inlet.
Fair numbers of small bluefish were landed in the surf along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton Wednesday morning. Some croaker, spot and sea mullet were taken during the day.
Small croaker and Spanish mackerel were landed at Cape Point.
Scattered small bluefish were taken by surfcasters from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.
Scattered bluefish, Spanish mackerel and king mackerel were taken by inshore trolling charters off Oregon Inlet. Pigfish, sea bass and triggerfish were landed by headboats in the Oregon Inlet area.
Yellowfin tuna fishing was good at the point. Dolphin fishing was fair between the 40530 and the 40800 Loran lines. White marlin were released by the Right Hook and the Dancing With Dolphins, a blue marlin was released by the Fish'N'Frenzy and a sailfish was released by the Marlin Fever.
Charters off Hatteras caught good numbers of dolphin. Two white marlin were released by the Top Billing and a sailfish was released by the Nancy K.
The water temperature was 74 degrees Wednesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 77 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
