JOHN J. BASINGER

John Jeremiah Basinger, 100, a resident of a nursing home in Norfolk and formerly of Kannapolis, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Dec. 5, 1896, in Gold Hill, N.C., he was the son of the late Robert L. and Barbara Canup Basinger. He retired as a salesman from Maxwell Brothers Furniture in Concord. Mr. Basinger was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I.

His wife, Lillian Leazer Basinger, died in May 1939.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline B. Henley of Norfolk; a son, John J. Basinger of Sylacuga, Ala; a sister, Bell Morgan of Gold Hill; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were performed Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by the Rowan D.A.V. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
