Cary Rosebrooke Hanckel Brown, the widow of John Thompson Brown, III, U.S. Navy (retired), died July 15, 1997.

Mrs. Brown was a native of Charlottesville, Va. She was the daughter of the late Ethel Rosebrooke Neilson Hanckel and William Cary Hankel.

She was a member of Eastern Shore Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach.

She is survived by a cousin, Mrs. K. Neilson Cram of Bemidji, Minn.; a niece and nephew, Dr. and Mrs. John Mulholland of Baltimore.

A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, 1997, at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery in Virginia Beach by the Rev. Andrew MacBeth.

Friends will gather at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society.
