Sarah Jones Yeates of Lake Shore Commons died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Norfolk on Nov. 22, 1901, the daughter of the late Van Owen and Lillie Savage Jones. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Carl Yeates Sr.; sisters, Catherine Harden and Louise Lambert; brothers, Lester and Van Edward Jones; and affectionate niece, Mrs. David (Dolly) Michalski.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Norma Yeates French of Baton Rouge, La.; devoted sons, Thomas Carl Yeates Jr. and Clarence Owen Yeates; daughter-in-law, Irene of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren, Mrs. Richard (Sandra) Avent, T.C. Yeates III, Adeline Yeates, Robert French, Keith O. Yeates, Mrs. Gary (Meg Yeates) Hopper, Lisa Yeates Devine, Clay B. Yeates; 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Eugenia Yeates of Suffolk.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
