JAMES B. MOORE

James B. Moore, 77, of the 100 block of Whitehurst Road, a retired civil service employee, died July 24, 1997, at his residence.

Mr. Moore, a native of Johnston County, N.C., worked in the public works department of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He retired with 37 years of service. Services included: Supervisor sheet metal worker; planner-estimator; head of the housing branch. He later worked three years for the Portsmouth Public School System as supervisor of the maintenance department. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a past member of Western Branch Masonic Lodge No. 189, AF&AM, member of the Great Bridge Baptist Church and the Gideons Chesapeake East Camp.

Survivors include his wife, Clara M. Moore; daughter, Carole B. Ward and her husband, David, of Norfolk; sister, Ozell Stadler of Virginia Beach; two stepsons, C. Roger Evans and his wife, Sylvia, of Chesapeake and Gregory Scott Evans of Chesapeake; two stepgrandsons, Curtis R. Evans Jr. of Gloucester and Erik Ward of Norfolk; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at Great Bridge Baptist Church Saturday at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. Charles L. Moseley. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Gideons International.
