LENA I.P. WARD

Lena I.P. Ward, 99, of the 1300 block of Highland Ave. died July 22, 1997, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

A native of Clinton, N.C., she was the widow of the Rev. Henry B. Ward and a member and deaconess at Brighton Rock A.M.E. Zion Church, Portsmouth. She was also a member of Sarai No. 37, J.R. Giddings and Order of Tents.

Survivors include six daughters, Josephine Riddick, Ora Lee Bunch, Izora Bowe, all of Portsmouth, and Mildred Langston and Jean Harrison, both of Washington, D.C. and Shirley McGriff of Indianapolis; four sons, William Ward and the Rev. Kenneth Ward, both of Indianapolis, James W. Ward of Portsmouth and Thomas Eugene Ward of Chesapeake; 58 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mamie Allmond and a son, Herman A. Ward.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brighton Rock A.M.E. Zion Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Clifford Barnett. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
