A Virginia Beach man was shot to death early Friday morning after he answered a knock at the door, police said.
Late Friday, four people, one a teen-ager, were charged with his murder.
Police spokesman Mike Carey said officers were called to the 400 block of Osprey St. just before 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old William McKleny III of the 400 block of Surf Scoter Court, near Kempsville Greens Golf Course.
Carey said McKleny was at the townhome with a girlfriend and her two young children. There was a knock at the front door.
``Apparently the victim was on his way to the front door when some of the suspects gained entry through a rear door,'' Carey said.
It was not clear whether McKleny was shot from the front or from behind.
Late Friday, Carey said investigartors had made four arrests. All the suspects, who are being held without bond, are charged with first-degree murder, armed burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and use of a gun while committing a felony.
Three of the suspects were identified as Toney D. Griffen, 18, of the 800 block of St. Dennis Court; Jerry Norman Jr., 22, of the 2400 block of McCaskey Road in Williamston, N.C.; and Terrence M. Woolard, 20, of the 5900 block of Beechwalk Drive. The name of the 17-year-old was not released because of his age.
The men are being held at the city jail; the juvenile at the Tidewater Detention Home.
It remained unclear why McKleny was killed.
For the past six years, McKleny worked as a technician at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
