Willie Armstrong Sr., 86, of the 1000 block of Collingwood Ave. died July 24, 1997.
A native of Norfolk County, he was the widower of Annie Armstrong and a retired public works employee of the Naval Air Station, retiring in 1971 after 34 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Campostella, Norfolk, and the board of trustees, male chorus, the male usher board and the joint usher board. He was a member of the NAACP, Berkley Elk Lodge No. 12, I.B.P.O.E. of W. Southside Civic League, Masonic Improved Lodge No. 192 P.H.A.
Survivors include three daughters, Ora Hinton, Juanita Easley, both of Chesapeake, Maude Sawyers of Clinton, Md.; six sons, Eugene Armstrong, Stanley Armstrong and Martin Armstrong, all of Chesapeake, Howard Armstrong of San Antonio, Texas, Tyrone Armstrong of Norfolk and Calvin Armstrong of Virginia Beach; sister, Amy Lewis of Chesapeake; brother, Henry Armstrong of Portsmouth; 41 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Campostella, 1510 Conoga St., Norfolk, by Dr. Harold Cason Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Garden, Chesapeake. The body will be placed in the church Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. for a funeral procession to the church.
