WILLIAM L. SHIELDS JR.

William L. ``Bill'' Shields Jr., 54, of the 2200 block of Georgetown Blvd., changed this life to be present with the Lord July 27, 1997.

A born-again Christian, he was a native of New York City and was a member of Rock Church, Virginia Beach, where he served as an usher, deacon, care group facilitator and the bus driver. Mr. Shields was a service adviser for Conoly Phillips Lincoln-Mercury.

Survivors include his wife, Retha Shields; a daughter, Lisa Hatcher of Hampton; five sons, Sherman ``Cookie'' Shields of Killian, Texas, William ``Billy'' Shields III of Chesapeake, Anthony Shields of Norfolk, Kenneth Shields of Denbigh, Va., William ``Little Bill'' Shields IV, U.S. Army, of Chesapeake; two sisters; a brother; 14 grandchildren, Brooke, Indigo, Sh'Dae, William, Adrianna, Elliott, Michael, Nathaniel, Brittany, Brandon, Kenny, Keisha, Kelvon, Bryah; two aunts, Catherine and Rachel; two uncles, Willie and Samuel.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Rock Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Betty F. Forbes. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. Memorial donations may be sent to the Rock Church Building Fund.
