Elvin M. Blackley, 79, of the 1700 block of Richmond Ave., died July 29, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 21 years of service and was also employed by the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was a member of New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Blackley; a daughter, Ravaline Simmon of Norfolk; a son, Michael Lewis of Norfolk; a brother, Freddie Blackley of California; a grandchild, Michael Lewis II; a special niece, Lawanda Woods of Portsmouth; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth, by the Rev. T.M. Steele. Burial will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton. Viewing will be today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 1717 Richmond Ave. for the procession to the church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
