A Florida court ordered CSX Corp. to pay $50 million in punitive damages to a Florida woman whose husband died in a 1991 derailment. CSX said it will appeal the ruling. Two years ago, the woman, Angelica Palank, won $6.1 million in compensatory damages from a different jury. CSX appealed that judgment and lost and is considering another appeal. After several accidents in the past few months, the head of the Federal Railroad Commission recently ordered an inquiry into CSX safety and maintenance practices. KEYWORDS: LAWSUIT RULING CSX
