Dr. Linda T. Morgan has been selected principal and Laura M. Cummings will be assistant principal of Carrsville Elementary School.
Morgan was assistant principal at Carrollton Elementary School while on educational leave from Christopher Newport University last year. A former chairman of the Isle of Wight School Board, she served on the school board for 12 years.
Morgan is a graduate of Longwood College, Texas A & M University and Virginia Tech. She is president of the Smithfield High School PTA.
Morgan has taught for 20 years at Christopher Newport University. She has been director of the Center for Effective Teaching, Chair of the Education and Leisure Studies Department, and director of the Peninsula Cooperative Clinical Faculty Program. She was also an assistant principal for Hampton City Schools for four years.
Morgan has two sons, Hunter, and Justin.
Cummings, recently appointed assistant principal for Carrollton Elementary School, was lead teacher at Smithfield Middle School.
Cummings has an undergraduate degree in elementary education from Appalachian State University and a master's degree from Old Dominion University in middle school education. She will complete her Certificate of Advanced Studies in school administration at ODU in mid-August.
Cummings taught for six years in North Carolina and in Isle of Wight for eight years. She and her husband, Milton, have two sons, Grant and Sean.
