VIRGINIA H. MATHEWS

Virginia Hanrahan Mathews, 87, of Brandon, Fla., died Aug. 11, 1997 in Sun City Center, Fla.

Mrs. Mathews, a resident of Portsmouth for many years, was the widow of Edwin E. ``Pop'' Mathews. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and The Women's Club. She retired from The Famous in Portsmouth with over 40 years of service.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mary M. Torrence of Riverview, Fla.; a niece, a nephew and several cousins.

A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, and other times at the home of Estelle Smith, 504 Nottingham Road, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, Va. 23704. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
