MARY E. HARLESS

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Harless, 82, who owned and operated Naas Bakery at Wards Corner for more than 25 years with her husband, the late Marvin W. Harless, died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997, at Kent and Queen Ann Hospital in Chestertown, Md., after a stroke.

Mrs. Harless, a native of Columbus, Ga., was a member of the Waters Bible Class of Talbot Park Baptist Church. She held various offices in the Daughters of the Nile, Al Kena Temple of Norfolk, and was a longtime member of the Social Order of Beauceant. Mrs. Harless was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Elizabeth 45, and was also active in the Restmere Garden Club.

Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Martha Brown of Hamburg, N.Y.; her sister-in-law, Mamie Lou English of Long Beach, Calif.; her daughter, Jo Ann Castagnola of Rockville, Md.; her sons, Doug Harless of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Paul Harless of Fredericksburg, Va.; five granddaughters, Lea Ann Sarette of Merrimack, N.H., Lynn Valvano of Hsin Chu, Taiwan, Lisa Paige Harless of Boston, Mass., Linda Jo Nolan of Merrimack, N.H., Lara Lee Harless of Boulder, Colo.; a grandson, Craig Castagnola of Germantown, Md.; and great-grandchildren, Brenna and Nicholas Sarette, Dennis and Michelle Castagnola and Jessica Valvano.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk, where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. ILLUSTRATION: Personal photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
