Robert Everet Culpepper, 73, entered into rest Aug. 13, 1997, in Alexandria Hospital. Born Sept. 28, 1923, he was the son of Thelma and Milton Culpepper of Portsmouth. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Arthur Culpepper of Alexandria and Salisbury, N.C.; two sisters, June C. Cotton of Portsmouth, Betty C. Hall of Annapolis, Md.; brother, Milton O. Culpepper Jr. of Roanoke; three nephews; and six nieces.
Robert Culpepper graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Staunton, Va., after which he enrolled in The Citadel. His Citadel class was called to military duty in February 1942. He was selected to attend the Army star program at Georgetown University. Upon completion of this training he was assigned to the Ozark Division of the 9th Army. As a platoon sergeant, he participated in action near Stuttgart and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
Following his military service Mr. Culpepper returned to The Citadel as a veteran student, graduating in 1949. He then studied real estate law at George Washington University Law School. He worked with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. real estate investment program for 20 years, ultimately advancing to the position of assistant vice president. He then joined the Fannie Mae Corp., working as property manager and serving as a member of the board until his retirement in 1985.
His interment will take place at Quantico Memorial Cemetery. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
