Floyd C. Nugent, 77, died Aug. 16, 1997.
A native of Copper Hill, Ariz., he was a commander in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1963. Prior to joining the Navy in 1940, he played baseball for the University of Arizona and the Boston Red Sox organization. Commissioned in 1944, he served as a fighter pilot in World War II and Korea. He was a pilot during the Berlin Airlift and was a Pearl Harbor survivors. He retired from the Navy in 1963, having last served as chief of flight test at Patuxent River, Md. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Grumman Aerospace and later Hughes Aircraft.
He was a board member of Cavalier Yacht and Golf Club and the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
Survivors include his wife, Margery M. Nugent; three daughters, Sharon L'Hommedieu of Virginia Beach, Janet Kasperbauer of Virginia Beach and Cathy Grossi Newton of Chicago; stepdaugther, Susan Koszuta of San Antonio, Texas; son, Raymond C. Nugent of Virginia Beach; two stepsons, Matthew McClain of Virginia Beach and Stuart McClain of Nashville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A private funeral will be held. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
