Edward B. ``Ed'' Smith of the 4200 block of Coffman Blvd. died Aug. 20, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
He was born in Stanford, Conn., and was a member of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk; a past elder of Cambria Hats Community Church in Queens, N.Y.; a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.; and a Boy Scout leader. Receiving his bachelor of arts degree from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, he was a supervising investment advisor for First Investor Corp. and retired seven years ago after 10 years.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lenora B. Smith; a son, Damon E. Smith of the home; a brother, William Smith of New York City; sister-in-law, Tressie Basnight; brother-in-law, George A. Basnight; uncle, James Fowlkes of White Plains, N.Y.; and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Fowlkes and Edward Smith Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, 1057 Kennedy St., Norfolk, by the Rev. Byron Collins. A memorial service by Kappa Alpha Psi will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hale Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
