ELVA T. SMITH

Elva Thompson Smith, 80, of the 400 block of W. Washington St., died Aug. 22, 1997, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.

A native of Nansemond County, Va., she retired as owner and operator of Smith's Auto Repair after 50 years. She was the daughter of the late Bruce Thompson and Ellen Holland Thompson and the widow of George Wilson Smith.

Survivors include her two nieces, Joan Sammons Bement of Newport News, Merle Sammons Ivey of Williamsburg; and a nephew, W. Wilroy Sammons of Newport News.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Cedar Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Mark Burns. Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
