Elmer Lee Brooks, 86, of Island Lane died Aug. 25, 1997, in a local hospital.
Mr. Brooks was born in Mathews County on June 23, 1911. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1930. He was an accomplished woodworker, particularly in reproduction furniture and cabinetry. He was retired from Burton Lumber Co., where he was a cabinet shop superintendent and estimator. He was a mason, an avid fisherman and gardener.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez S. Brooks.
Survivors include a daughter, Emily Eubanks, and her husband, the Rev. James Eubanks, of Holbrook, Mass.; son, Donald Brooks,and his wife, Emily, of Virginia Beach; sister, Bea Howard of Virginia Beach; brother, James Brooks of Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren, Scott and Kevin Brooks of Virginia Beach, Donna Crowell of Lakeside, Calif., Karen Gray, currently in West Africa doing missionary work, and Mark Eubanks of Holbrook; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park by the Rev. James Eubanks.
