HOWARD G. THIGPEN

Retired U.S. Navy CPO Howard G. Thigpen, 68, of the 2700 block of Ike St., died Aug. 25, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.

He retired as a chief petty officer of the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service and was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam and a member of Fleet Reserve Association Branch 60, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4809, and Loyal Order of the Moose No. 39. Mr. Thigpen was born in Greenville, N.C., and also retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 23 years.

Survivors include his fiancee, Janet Nails of Chesapeake; a daughter, Hulda Ann Evans, and her husband, Jeff, of Chesapeake; a son, Glenn Thigpen, and his wife, Wendy, of Virginia Beach; a sister, Margaret L. Thompson of Tarboro, N.C.; two brothers, Willis B. Thigpen and his wife, Mary, of Norfolk, Bruce E. Thigpen and his wife, Lynn, of Greenville, N.C.; and a grandson, William Bradley Thigpen of Virginia Beach.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Ernest G. Roebuck. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
