Jack Neil ``Red'' McDermott, 66, of the 4700 block of Race St. died Aug. 25, 1997, in a local hospital.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., he was a petty officer first class in the U.S. Navy, retiring with 20 years of service. He was a former partner in Discount Auto Sales and a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his mother, Laura Garland McDermott of Portsmouth; wife, Josephine M. McDermott; three sons, Jack D. McDermott and Don P. McDermott, both of Chesapeake, and David L. McDermott of Portsmouth; sister, Susie Richie of Staunton, Va.; brother, Bill McDermott of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, David, Jackie, Chelsea, Jake, Dan, Haley, Joshua and Molly.
A graveside funeral will be private. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
