JERRY WAYNE SILL

Jerry Wayne Sill, born July 22, 1945, in Dallas, went to be with the Lord Aug. 25, 1997. His work was finally finished.

He was raised on a farm in Arkanas. Later he lived with his brother, James D. Sill, in Florida and Virginia.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1962. He served on the honor guard for the funeral of President John F. Kennedy. After a short tour in Germany, he volunteered to serve with the 9th Special Forces Group in Vietnam. He attained the rank of sergeant first class and was honored with the Silver Star during his second tour of duty there. He returned home to spend 20 years as a firefighter with the Virginia Beach Fire Department. He also worked for Ski World for 13 1/2 years.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah; his son, Chip; and his brother, James D. Sill, and his wife, Madelyn of Fort Myers, Fla.

A funeral will be conducted Friday at noon at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel by the Rev. Gene McGrady. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Friends may pay their respects after 11 a.m. today in the funeral home. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach (Davis Corner) Rescue Squad, 4672 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455.
