Claude ``Billy Whipple'' Gainer of the 5300 block of Eastover Circle died Aug. 27, 1997, in Lafayette Villa.
A native of Windsor, N.C., he was a member of Local 1248 International Longshoreman's Association. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Gaynor; six daughters, Jeanette White of Norfolk, Juliatte Sanders of Portsmouth, Margaret Boykins of Norfolk, Claudette Tidwell and Darlene Gaynor and Pamela McNeal, both of Norfolk; six sons, Warrenton Griff, Robert E. Gaynor, Tony Gaynor, William Gaynor, Edward Gaynor and Trantalis Gaynor, all of Norfolk; sister, Lillie G. Norman of Norfolk; brother, Elbert Gaynor of Philadelphia; 43 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Cordelia Gaynor; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday in St. Andrews Temple, 35th St., by Rev. Basnight. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens. The remains will be ready for viewing today at 4 p.m. The family will assemble at 5304 Eastover Circle at 12:30 p.m. for the procession Friday. Carlos A.
