RUTH S. JOYCE

Ruth Spruill Joyce, 73, of the 900 block of Shillelagh Road, died Aug. 26, 1997, of cancer in her residence.

Mrs. Joyce was born in Creswell, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Leroy and Elma Basnight Spruill. She was a 1942 graduate of Deep Creek High School and retired 10 years ago as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Lindale Christian Church, Chesapeake.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon A. Joyce of Chesapeake; two daughters, Louise Joyce-Hardy of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Linda Pippin of Chesapeake; two sons, Gary Thomas Joyce of Chesapeake and Vernon Jay Joyce of Portsmouth; two sisters, Carolyn Spruill Smith of Bedford, Va., and Gloria Spruill Blair of Chesapeake; six brothers, Harold Spruill and Aubrey Spruill of Virginia Beach, Edwin Spruill of Chesapeake, Leroy Spruill of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., William Spruill of Moyock, N.C., and Robert Spruill of Stuart's Draft, Va.; seven grandchildren, Larry and Mark Gonzales, Joseph and Monica Joyce, Christopher Pippin and James and Robert Joyce.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Lindale Christian Church, 1119 Lindale Drive, Chesapeake, by the Rev. David Vaughan. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake.

Family will receive friends in Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Lindale Christian Church or the American Cancer Society. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
