CAR CROSSING BRIDGE KNOCKS BICYCLIST INTO BAY, KILLING HIM

A car crossing a Laskin Road bridge Tuesday knocked a bicyclist into Linkhorn Bay, killing him.

Police said they found the body of 50-year-old Gene A. Powers floating face-down shortly after the motorist told a nearby police officer what had happened. Powers lived in the 700 block of St. Bernard Square.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. in the 1300 block of Laskin Road.

The motorist, identified as 29-year-old Christopher G. Cook, lives in the 1500 block of Custom St. He was charged with manslaughter, drunken driving and refusing to take a breath test. KEYWORDS: MANSLAUGHTER DRUNKEN DRIVING ACCIDENT TRAFFIC
