WELCOMING A COAST GUARD SHIP IN PORTSMOUTH

ILLUSTRATION: Above, Seaman Mike Lehansky waves to the crew of the

U.S. Coast Guard cutter Dependable as it arrives at its new

homeport, the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command on Craney

Island in Portsmouth. The ship, the 11th cutter based in Portsmouth,

had been undergoing a major refurbishment at the Coast Guard Yard in

Baltimore. The 210-foot cutter has a maximum speed of 18 knots and a

crew of 75. Its primary missions will be law enforcement, defense,

and search and rescue.
