Mystery fans take heart. MaryAnne Gleason's second and newest mystery is finally out.
``Forbidden Image,'' published by Ocean Publications out of Delaware, made its debut last weekend at an area book fair.
``It's a romance/suspense story about a woman who takes on the identity of her deceased twin sister only to find out she's being pursued for a crime she did not commit,'' Gleason said. ``She then has to prove her innocence to a Navy captain who's determined to make her pay for her alleged crime.''
Gleason's first book, ``Forbidden Obsession,'' was published last year by the same company. The story was set in Norfolk's historic downtown and Ghent neighborhoods. This new work, the second installment in her ``Forbidden . . . '' series, will jet between locales in Italy and Norfolk.
``In the book I mention the Naval Amphibious Base, several Norfolk restaurants along with many Norfolk streets and landmarks,'' she said.
Is the publishing of her second book as big a thrill as the first?
``With this second novel coming out, I think it's a bigger thrill,'' said Gleason, a third-grade teacher in Virginia Beach. ``. . . The first time was really scary; I had no idea what to expect. But it's fun this time out. I received so much support and mail from people who loved the first book, I now know I have an audience out there.''
Now that she's focused twice on Norfolk, the author is taking a regional approach.
Gleason said her third installment in the series, ``Forbidden Justice,'' which should be published in the spring/summer of next year, will focus on a crime that took place at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
