The William Collins Hill Memorial Horticultural Library will reopen Sept. 15.
The library, located in the War Memorial building at 364 Peninsula Ave., will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The library was created with an endowment from the Hill sisters in memory of their brother, who died in 1934.
The Hills were part of a prominent Olde Towne family who were known for their love of horticulture. The family also willed their English basement home to the Portsmouth Historical Association.
The library, now open to the public, offers patrons about 2,500 books on topics ranging from gardening and floral art to garden pests and crafts.
Books added to the library over the summer include:
``Creative Floral Arranging'' by Cowles Creative Publishing Inc.; ``Low-Fat, Low Calorie Recipes'' by the editors of Southern Living, and ``Christmas with Southern Living, 1997.''
Books checked out before the library closed for the summer should be returned.
