CURRY W. SMITH

Curry Wilson Smith, 80, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk.

He was a retired farmer. He was an active member of Boykins Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and a member of the Berean Bible Class. He was a member of the Boykins Lions Club and the Boykins Masonic Lodge No. 287, AF&AM. As an involved community citizen, he was a past member of the Southampton County Planning Commission from 1972 to 1994 and the Boykins Town Council for four years. In World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late Henry L. and Virgie Vick Smith. His stepmother was the late Mary Warren Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Eglantine Revelle Smith; a daughter, Margaret Wilson Smith Murray, and her husband, Joe; two granddaughters, Jo Revelle Murray and Margaret Bardin Murray, all of Murfreesboro, N.C.; five sisters, Louise S. Parker of Franklin, Clara S. Blythe of Richmond, Frances S. Stewart of Portsmouth, Nell S. Moses of Newport News and Rose S. Breedlove of Virginia Beach. He was the brother of the late Eunice S. Hill and Charlie Smith.

A funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Boykins Baptist Church by the Rev. Benjamin Thomas and the Rev. Thomas Caulkins. Burial with Masonic rites will be at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to Boykins Baptist Church. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
