GARY W. SYKES

Gary Wesley Sykes, 42, was called into God's Kingdom on Sept. 9, 1997.

A native of Norfolk, he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and formerly employed by the Norfolk Naval Base as a merchant seaman, the Norfolk Ship and Drydock Corp., and McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond. He was the son of Eunice (Jeanette) Sykes-Jones of Norfolk and Joseph W. Sykes of Virginia Beach.

Survivors include his wife, Linda W. Sykes; three daughters, Angela E. Williams, Katrina Sykes, both of Norfolk, April Williams of North Carolina; a son, Marcus Lawe of Norfolk; three sisters, JoNita Sykes-Joyner of Alabama, Pamela Sykes-Bailey of Chesapeake, Andrea Jones-Gray of Norfolk; three brothers, Tony Sykes of Norfolk, Derrick Jones of Norfolk, Byron Sykes of Hampton; four grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service chapel by the Rev. Joseph Lassiter. Burial will be in St. Luke Cemetery, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 915 Haledon Road, Chesapeake, at 3 p.m. Wednesday for the procession to the church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
