BESSIE M. BRINKLEY

Bessie M. Brinkley, 78, died Sept. 12, 1997, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

She was born in Hobbsville, N.C., and was the widow of David Garland Brinkley Sr. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Lambert, and her husband, Jim, of Virginia Beach; a stepdaughter, Beth Carnal, and her husband, Jim, of Adams, Tenn.; a son, David Garland Brinkley Jr., and his wife, Diane, of Zuni, Va.; a sister, Rosa Nell Banagan of Virginia Beach; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Sharpe of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, David G. Brinkley III of Windsor, Va., Eric Lambert of Richmond, Duane Brinkley of Southampton County, Va., and Kelly Simerson of Virginia Beach; and two great-grandchildren, Brandii Brinkley of Windsor, Joshua Simerson of Virginia Beach; two nieces and a nephew.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Steve Bradshaw of Zuni. The family will receive friends at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel from 3 to 4 p.m. today.
