``The Gregory Hines Show''
Network, time: CBS, 9 p.m. Fridays, sneak preview tonight at 8:30.
Cast: Gregory Hines, Brandon Hammond, Wendell Pierce, Bill Cobbs, Mark Tymshyshyn, Robin Riker and Judith Shelton.
Concept: Hines plays the father of a 12-year-old son. Hines' character has been widowed for 18 months, and he's about to resume his social life. It's ``The Courtship of Eddie's Father'' all over again. His brother, father and co-workers are free with advice - giving him a little push back into the dating game.
Mini-review: Hines is a talented, engaging performer who could make a mediocre sitcom watchable. This comedy is better than that. The Hines' character bonds nicely with his son, and he's a hoot picking out his wardrobe for his dates. Wear a tie? No. That's too Bryant Gumbel. Date young, young women? It's okay if they've lost their baby teeth. *** (Out of a possible five). ILLUSTRATION: Color CBS photo
