CLYDE W. SHORTER

Clyde Willard Shorter, 81, passed away Sept. 14, 1997, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

Mr. Shorter was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Martinsville, son of the late Roy and Mary Francis Carter Shorter. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Henry County Music Association. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Shorter.

Survivors include his loving children, Shirley Walton of Chesapeake, Doris Riley of Russellville, Ark., Lois Criswell of Carson, Clyde Shorter and John Ray Shorter, both of Chesapeake; four sisters, Edith Justice of Edneyville, N.C., Inez Koger of Norfolk, Dorothy Matherly of Wilmington, N.C., Jane White of Collinsville, Va.; two brothers, Billy Shorter and Dewey Shorter, both of Martinsville; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 today in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home by the Rev. Allen Roberson. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park. Following the burial friends and relatives are invited to join the family at 1209 Timberlake Court, Chesapeake. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
