ROBERTA G. JENNINGS

Roberta Gilchrist Jennings, 59, died Sept. 16, 1997, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Mrs. Jennings was born Dec. 3, 1937, in Norfolk, the daughter of the late Warren and Algenora Phelps. She was retired from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center. She was an active member of the New Light Baptist Church where she served on the gospel choir, the usher and deaconess boards and was secretary of the New Light Civic League.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Thomas Jennings; two sons, Anthony Jennings and the Rev. Marcus Jennings of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Sharon Brock of Woodbridge, Va., Regina McPherson of Virginia Beach, Marsha VanHosen of Norfolk; 12 grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harris O. Jennings; a sister-in-law, Otealia Jennings; a niece, Lucynthia Rawls; three sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; a half sister; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in New Light Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, by Dr. R.B. Lewis. The body will be placed in the church for viewing at 10 a.m. The family will assemble at 1260 Church St., Virginia Beach, at 10 a.m. today. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
