ROY A. RICHARDSON

Roy Alphonso Richardson, 88, of the 600 block of West Riverview Drive, died Sept. 16, 1997.

A native of Waverly, he was a son of the late Alphonso F. and Lula V. Robertson Richardson and attended Elon College. Mr. Richardson was the former owner and operator of Richardson Theatres Inc. and was a member of Suffolk Christian Church, where he served as deacon emeritus. Since 1936, he was a member of the Suffolk Lions Club, served as president and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685 and for many years was the Suffolk city golf champion. Mr. Richardson was a former member of the Suffolk City Council.

Survivors include his wife, Page Hill Richardson; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley R. and Aubrey Fitzgerald of Newport News; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy R. ``Bob'' and Ginnie Richardson of Suffolk; six grandchildren, Audrey Page Bosselman, Lynn Mitchell, Ann Fitzgerald, Bobby Richardson, Martin Richardson, Tom Fitzgerald; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Michael Halley with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Christian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1457, Suffolk, Va. 23439.
