OZELL M. STADLER

Ozell M. Stadler, 75, known as ``Mimi'' to those who knew and loved her, passed away Sept. 16, 1997, at Sentara Village, Norfolk, following a long battle with emphysema. She was the wife of the late Philip G. Stadler.

Ozell was a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, retiring to Frisco, N.C., in 1980. She was a past member of the Cape Hatteras Angler's Club and was known as the ``Flounder Lady'' for her unique ability to catch large flounder while fishing in the surf. She returned to Virginia Beach in 1988 upon the death of her husband of 48 years. A native of Johnston County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Cora Moore, and was preceded in death by her brother, James B. Moore of Chesapeake.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Pamela and Stewart Payne, Lee and Ben Galinoski, all of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, C. Michelle Steward and her fiancee, John Ayers of Chesapeake, Kathryn Berry and her husband, Bryan Tracy Berry of Jacksonville, Fla., Wendy Short and her husband, Danny Short of Suffolk, Oliver W. Mullins of Virginia Beach; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Steward and Brittany Taylor of Chesapeake, Aaron Berry of Jacksonville, Fla., Maddy McCabe, Drew and Rachel Short of Suffolk. She is also survived by nephews, Richard Stadler and Gregory Karl of New York; a niece, Virginia Karl, of New York; dear friends, Katy Skaltsounis and John Bashara of Norfolk and Dr. Johnnie Lee of Stamford, Conn.

The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Warren Chapman. After the service, the family will be at 5666 Pin Oak Court in the Kempsville section of Virginia Beach.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sentara Hospice Program, Koger Executive Center No. 8, Norfolk, Va. 23502, or the Sentara Village Norfolk Recreational Program, 251 S. Newtown Road, Norfolk, Va. 23502. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
