Clarence L. Rollins, 76, of the 300 block of Carver Circle died Sept. 15, 1997, in Hampton Veterans Hospital, Hampton.
He was born in Newsome, Va., and retired as a truck driver for Coca-Cola Bottling Works after 30 years. He was a member of Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where he was a past member of the Andrews Brothers Club and was also a church shepherd. Mr. Rollins was a U.S. Navy veteran and the son of the late Pearl D. Rollins and David Rollins.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Rollins; a daughter, Dorothy L. Graves of Norfolk; three sons, Willie L. Rollins of Boykins, Linwood Rollins of Virginia Beach, Dalious Rollins of Norfolk; five sisters, Lizzie P. Blow of Portsmouth, Bessie Parker of Washington, D.C., Ovella Joyner of Drewryville, Va., Mary Stephen of St. Petersburg, Fla., Ruby Harney of Fairfax, Va.; six brothers, William H. Rollins Sr., James H. Rollins, both of Portsmouth, Thomas L. Rollins of Capron, Va., Jefferson Rollins of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jeremiah Rollins of Richmond, Roosevelt Rollins of Durham, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter, Vivian Artis, and two brothers, Joe Louis Rollins and John David Rollins.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming and the Rev. James A. Rollins Sr. Burial will be in Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery, Branchville, Va., with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon Friday.
