SAMUEL E. GLOVER

Sgt. Samuel Edward Glover, 65, of the 100 block of Pembroke Lane died Sept. 16, 1997, in Obici Hospital.

Born in Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Albert and Vinnie Glover. He was educated in the Nansemond County School System. Sgt. Glover retired from the Suffolk Police Department in 1982. He was the first black officer to receive rank in the City of Suffolk. Sgt. Glover was active in many community and civic organizations. He was also a member of Christian Home Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. At the time of his demise, he was chairman of the board of deacons.

Sgt. Glover is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy; four children, Kendra McLeod of Suffolk, Glenda Baul and her husband, William, of Hanover County, Elton and his wife, Antionette, of Springfield, Va., Sam Jr. and his wife, Vivian, of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Brandon Glover McLeod of Suffolk, Jequan and Jayla Baul of Hanover County, Va., Sharonda, Jamaar and Jarren Glover of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Helen Glover Byrd of Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, Willie Glover of Portsmouth, Albert Glover of Isle of Wight, Dr. Bernard Glover of Suffolk; six sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Christian Home Baptist Church, Windsor. Burial will be in Christian Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be in the church at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
