ELMA L. BARNES

Elma L. Barnes, 61, of the 700 block of Madison St., died Sept. 15, 1997, in Maryview Nursing Care Center, Suffolk.

Born in Jackson, N.C., she was a past member of Mount Sinai R.Z.U.A. Church, Portsmouth, and member of Bible Study Club at Effingham Plaza.

Survivors include two daughters, Gale B. Baylor and Lois L. Barnes, both of Hampton; two sons, James D. Barnes and Jeffrey J. Barnes, both of Hampton; four sisters, Blannie Edwards of Jackson, N.C., Dorothy Willis of Newark, N.J., Mary Jane Gatling of Garysburg, N.C., Geneva Whiting of Suffolk; five brothers; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth, by the Rev. T.M. Steele. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at noon Friday. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Saturday for the service. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
