Ruth McGuire Lemon, 78, of the 600 block of Delaware Ave., died Sept. 19, 1997, in her home.
She was a former resident of the 400 block of Mango Drive, Virginia Beach. A native of Norfolk, Mrs. Lemon was the daughter of the late Annie Maude and James A. Dozier, and was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Dozier of Virginia Beach. Mrs. Lemon studied piano with Cora Pollard and played the piano in the orchestra at Park Place Baptist Church and Maury High School. She attended Park Place United Methodist Church. She was a former bookkeeper for Bunin Electric and Ferrell Brothers' Construction Co. She retired from J.C. Penney Catalog Department.
She is survived by five daughters, Nancy Roberts Costa and her husband, Robert, of Cedarburg, Wis., Joyce Roberts Parrott of Emerald Isle, N.C., Mary L. Parrish and her husband, Thomas, of Timonium, Md., Sandra L. Unitas and her husband, John, of Baldwin, Md., and Donna Jane L. Lehmann of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Richard Alan Lemon and his wife, Deborah of Las Vegas and Ronald J. Lemon of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mildred A. Dozier of Norfolk; three brothers, Alfred T. Overton and his wife, Sue of Willoughby, Ohio, James A. Dozier Jr. and his wife, Joanne, of Norfolk, and Robert W. Dozier and his wife, Bonnie, of Chesapeake; seven granddaughters, Debbie Costa Gall and her husband, Ron, of Grafton, Wis., Diana Parrott Hanvey and her husband, Michael, of Panama City, Fla., Katie and Cindy Lemon of Las Vegas, Andrea Lehmann of Las Vegas, Sunny Lemon of Virginia and Paige Unitas of Baldwin, Md.; eight grandsons, Robert Costa Jr. and his wife, Deb, of Plymouth, Wis., Richard Parrott of Emerald Isle, N.C., David Parrott of San Diego, Calif., Michael Parrott and his wife, Shalon of Horn Lake, Miss., Steven Lehmann of Las Vegas, Mike Broxterman of San Diego, Joey and Chad Unitas of Baldwin; 10 great-grandchildren, Steven, Brian and Mike Gall of Grafton, Wis., Aimee, Kayla and Ryan Costa of Plymouth, Wis., Clint and Corinne Hanvey of Panama City, Fla., Josh Parrott of Horn Lake, Miss., and Lindsay Broxterman of Macon, Ga.; many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in the Cox Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Charles H. Smith III and Rev. Francis E. Collins. The family will meet with friends in the Chapel following the service and later at 634 Delaware Ave., Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Virginia, 5349 E.
