Robert Lewis DeVane, 48, of the 2200 block of Rock Creek Drive died Sept. 19, 1997, in Naval Medical Center of Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
Born in Ivanhoe, N.C., he was an automobile salesman for R.K. Chevrolet. He had retired as a chief petty officer after 22 years with the U.S. Navy and was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church, Ivanhoe.
Survivors include his mother, Eva DeVane Robinson and stepfather, Harvey Robinson, both of Supply, N.C.; four sisters, Ida Lee Smith and Brenda Corbett, both of Ivanhoe, Ocie Hooper of Harrells, N.C., Patricia Morris of Hyattsville, Md.; four brothers, Justice DeVane of Clinton, N.C., Darnell DeVane of Burgaw, N.C., Samuel DeVane of Ivanhoe, Troy DeVane of Chesapeake; and a host of uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends including a very dear, close, special friend, Samuel C. Clifton; and two godsons, Matthew Starkes and Shawn Pitchford.
The body was taken from Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, to Dunn Funeral Home, Burgaw, N.C., for funeral services in Ivanhoe. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
