Frances Swersky Stanton, 66, of the 500 block of Brackenridge Ave., died on Sept. 21, 1997, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Norfolk, Frances gave generously of her time to the Jewish and civic communities. She was a dedicated volunteer who served as former president of B'Nai Brith Women and Chairwomen of The Tidewater Jewish Forum, bringing much to the cultural arts program at the Jewish Community Center. She also served on the board of directors of the Norfolk Ballet and The Tidewater Winds. Frances gave her all and put her heart into every project she undertook.
Frances was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Arthur ``Arty'' Stanton; a sister, Selma Swersky; a son, Bradley Stanton and his wife, Cheryl; a daughter, Patty Stanton; and two grandchildren, Alexander and Erica Stanton.
A service will held at 2 p.m. today at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel. Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman will officiate. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cultural Arts Fund of The Jewish Community Center of Tidewater, 7300 Newport Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23505.
